Event Description

INIA worked with the Kenya Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (KAGG), South African Geriatrics Society, the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) and the International Association of Gerontology and GeriatricsAfrica Academy in organizing an insitu programme in Geriatrics. The Programme was held in Nairobi, Kenya between 28 February – 1 March 2019. The overall goal of the programme was to improve the basic clinical skills and competence of front-line health staff in the evaluation and management of older persons and to encourage further interest in the field of Geriatric Medicine. Lectures covered the following five key topics: The basic concepts of healthy ageing, disease prevention and population demographics; Physiological changes in older persons; Geriatric syndromes; Specific disease spectrum in older persons and Assessment and management of older persons. The programme, which attended by 74 participants was delivered by four experts from the South Africa Geriatric Society.
