The International Institute on Ageing United Nations-Malta (INIA) in collaboration with NTD Fundacion, INIA’s Satellite Centre for Central America and the Caribbean organised a training programme in Public Policies in Ageing for Central America and the Caribbean. The programme was held between 28 October – 1 November 2019 at the Pontifica Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The programme was opened by INIA’s Deputy Director Rosette Farrugia-Bonello together with Sandra Aponte, President of NTD Fundacion, Paola Melissa Montas Betances, Director of the Psychology Department, PUCMM and Maria Luisa Benitez Donoso, Diplomat from the European Union Delegation. The programme was attended by 46 participants coming from the medical and social fields and hailing from Dominica Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Paraguay. The participants also had the opportunity to visit a Day Centre ‘Golden Age’ and were briefed on historical sites in Santo Domingo by a group of older persons who run a cultural group. Among the lecturers, lecturing on the programme were Rosette Farrugia-Bonello, INIA’s Deputy Director, Dr. Alexandre Sidorenko,expert on national and international policy on ageing and Dr. Rosy Pererya, President of ILC-Global.
