INIA International Expert Committee on Active Ageing (IECAA) recognised Shouning County, Fujian, China as a World Longevity Area. A study on the environmental mechanism of the regional longevity of China was held. This was carried out by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Excellent results were obtained from field surveys and evaluations of the ecological environment. Studies included quality of air, drinking water, and soil; and evaluation of trace element content in agricultural products. The certificate of the World Longevity Area was recently presented by INIA’s Director Professor Marvin Formosa and Deputy Director Rosette Farrugia-Bonello in Shouning County, Fujian, China.
